SHILLONG:  The Opposition NPP has demanded adequate compensation to the family members of five slain police personnel, while condemning the attack.
The NPP leader James Sangma said on Wednesday that the party was shocked to learn the attack on the policemen by the militants.
“We condemn the incident and at the same time we demand adequate ex-gratia payment to the family of the victims”, Sangma said.
The NPP also said that adequate precautionary measures should have been taken by the police when they were going in a vehicle through the militant infested areas. .
Inquiry sought
The CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing sought an inquiry into the killing of five policemen by GNLA.
In a statement issued here, the CSWO President said that the state home department should initiate an inquiry by honest officers who are not influenced, so as to get to the bottom of the killing, as the state for once needs answers to all the insecurity and unrest, leading to murders and killings, of the people both public and those who are in the force.
The CSWO, while condemning the attack on the killing of the police personnel said that in spite of intelligence alert, the police personnel were not provided with bullet proof vehicle, as the higher ups  recklessly sent  a team driven by the driver of the Fire service who is also not in the armed branch, to escort a UTP.
“In the city of Shillong which is overpopulated, we see the UTPs are  brought to court  in a van well covered but in the far flung villages where there is much unrest and intimidations between the police and the Non State Actors, the police personnel should have been well-armed”, Kharshiing said.
According to CSWO, it is more surprising to note that when the personnel were shot all the phones of the DC and SP South Garo Hills were switched off as they were attending a meeting, to condemn the serving of demand notes to these officers.
