SHILLONG, Feb 26: Cutting across party lines, legislators questioned the delay in convening the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in the state.
In reply to a query raised by VPP MLA Heavingstone Kharpran and UDP MLA Mayralborn, C&RD Minister Abu Taher Mondal on Monday told the House that a total of nine meetings were held under DISHA committee in the last one year.
The role of DISHA committee is to monitor and review implementation of all central flagship programsmes and look into complaints and grievances. This committee is chaired by the Member of Parliament of the concerned district or seat.
Stating that the Committee is headed by the MP of the concerned district, Mondal said it is the MPs’ prerogative to convene the meeting.
He assured the House that the Shillong MP will be requested to convene a meeting following a request made by VPP MLA Kharpran, who alleged that no meeting has been held under DISHA insofar as East Khasi Hills is concerned.
Meanwhile, UDP MLA Mayralborn Syiem said that DISHA meeting could be convened very soon if time permits. “In future, it is the prerogative of the MP,” he added.
