No announcement on ex-gratia yet

SHILLONG: The State government is yet to announce the ex-gratia payment for the next of kin of each of the five policemen who were killed in an ambush by armed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) insurgents..

Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Thursday said that her department is preparing the proposal in this regard.

The family members of the slain police personnel will get Rs 7. 5 lakh each as ex-gratia amount as per the standard format of security persons who die on duty in Meghalaya.

In January last year that the State Cabinet hiked the ex-gratia amount from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh to be provided to the next of kin of police personnel killed in the line of duty.

The compensation to the injured police personnel in militant-related operations has also been hiked from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
