SHILLONG: The UDP East Khasi Hills is strong-willed about writing to the State Government to resolve the ongoing impasse by inviting the pro-ILP groups for the impending dialogue.
“We would also impress upon the Government that the State needs a mechanism like the ILP to check the unabated influx and inflow of illegal immigrants to protect the identity and interest of the local indigenous people,” Senior UDP leader RA Lyngdoh who was re-elected as the president of the UDP East Khasi Hills said during the general council meeting on Friday.
He also resolved that the party would also urge the Government to go slow with the proposed Meghalaya Landlords and Tenants Bill.
“We would want the Government to take the traditional heads into confidence before approving this Bill,” Lyngdoh said.
The senior UDP leader also said that they would also ask the Government to immediately mend the roads which are in pathetic condition across the State.
Besides Lyngdoh, the new officers of the UDP East Khasi Hills who were elected during the general council meeting are Teinwell Dkhar (general secretary), Banalari Khongwar (treasurer), Pretty Kharpyngrope (women wing president) and Hamlet Dohling (youth wing president).
