Madurai: In a shocking daylight crime, the State Deputy General Secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) M Ilanchezian (42), was hacked to death by a six-member-gang in a fit of revenge near his house at Vanamamalai Nagar in S S Colony Locality in the city, on Tuesday.

Police said Ilanchezian, against whom several criminal cases, including those of murder, were pending, was returning home on a two-wheeler after dropping his children in the school, this morning.

While nearing his house, a speeding Tata Sumo carrying the assailants knocked down the two-wheeler.

The gang pounced on the PMK leader and attacked him with sickles killing him on the spot in full public view.

The gang escaped from the scene after murdering the PMK leader.

Ilanchezian unsuccessfully contested the recently held Sholavandan (Reserve) Assembly Constituency in Madurai District as a PMK candidate.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and held inquiry. The body was removed to the Government Rajaji Hospital here for post-mortem.

Police investigation revealed the crime was sequel to the murder of the son of a Puthiya Tamilagam Party functionary.

Meanwhile, a prime suspect in the murder case, Kasi Viswanathan, surrendered to the S S Colony Police this afternoon while five others involved in the murder were absconding. (UNI)
