NONGSTOIN, March 4: An FIR was filed against the ‘illegal’ movement of coal, allegedly without challans, by the secretary and president of the Aradonga Dorbar centre in West Khasi Hills district, also claiming that the overloaded coal trucks were causing serious damage to the under construction road through the area.
The Dorbar heads in their FIR, filed with the Aradonga Police Station, stated that the trucks were plying through Riangdo through Athiabari (in Meghalaya) unto Boko in Assam without challans, meaning that the state’s revenues were being depleted while bridges and the road were now in deplorable condition.
The FIR was filed on March 2 with the complainant seeking an immediate investigation into the matter and a stop to the illegal transportation.
Meanwhile, upon being contacted, West Khasi Hills district police chief, Bikram D Marak stated that the matter was being looked into but there seemed to be some disconnect as the complainants were unwilling to come forward to provide statements.
“This involves the transport and DMR offices so we are coordinating with them on the matter and an investigation into the allegations is currently underway,” said the Superintendent of Police said.
