Alleged ostracization of RTI activist
SHILLONG: In the wake of the recent controversy over the Laitkor Rngi internal road following an RTI filed by one Alaric Lyngdoh, the Meghalaya Youth Federation (MYF) has sought a clarification from the Nongkrem Legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, on the detail of the centrally sponsored scheme that the latter had claimed was implemented in the area for construction of roads.
According to the chairman of MYF Johannes Lamare, three days before the Assembly Elections, Basaiawmoit had informed a public gathering during an election campaign held at Madan Kynton-U-Mon, Nongkrem that the sanctioned amount for the construction of the said road under the centrally sponsored scheme is over Rs 1 crore.
“What is surprising now to notice is the sudden disappearance of the scheme, of which the MLA has clarified that the scheme had lapsed due to the delay in implementing the same,” Lamare said while questioning the MLA for his failure to inform the public about the same.
“This is nothing but tricks played by the minister concerned to get more votes during the election by announcing the introduction of new schemes and which disappears just after elections”, MYF chairman said.
The MYF has also asked Basaiawmoit to present the details of the department or scheme which was allotted to construct this road, “Because till date, we are not aware of the nature of the scheme and the progress of the same,” he added.
Lamare has also sought a clarification as to whether tenders were called or not by the PWD (Roads) to construct this road.
“Since Ardent is so hyped about his Clean Politics campaign, I think, it is about time that he starts erasing the confusions from the mind of the people,” Lamare said.
