B’desh to act against militants

SHILLONG: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has assured its counterpart BSF of full cooperation in arresting the militants involved in the killing to its two guards on Friday last.

The assurance came from BGB during a sector-level meeting which was held at Bagli international border on Sunday.

BSF PRO Mahendra Singh said, “We have shared information with them and they told us that they will look for militants in their area and get back to us.”

The BSF submitted a list of six wanted criminals along with their photographs and addresses to the BGB for their immediate arrest and charging them against the attack on November 8, Singh said.

A group of suspected ANVC-B militants had sneaked into India from Bangladesh and shot dead two BSF constables in South West Garo Hills.

The attack was seen as a retaliatory one on the BSF which seized huge arms consignments the previous night in South Garo Hills.

A 9 mm carbine machine, one 7.65 mm Italian-make Barreta pistol, one China-make 7.65 mm pistol, all with ammunition, wireless set with signal booster, two mobile phones, sports shoes and other items were seized from the Angratoli reserve forest in the district..

The meeting decided to maintain a better co-ordination between the two forces while acting against militants.

It is learnt that BSF and BGB are also conducting joint patrolling along the priority patches of the 443 Km Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya sector.

Col K Bashar, Sylhet Sector Commander, represented the BGB while the BSF was represented by B D Sharma, Additional Director General, along with the IG Meghalaya Frontier. (With inputs from agencies)
