SHILLONG: With the Centre deciding to stop the supply of sugar under PDS, the State Government has taken steps to buy sugar from sugar mills to meet the demands of people.

There was no supply of sugar by the Centre for the last several months which resulted in the inability of the State Government to release the required quantity of sugar to the beneficiaries.

The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the civil supplies department has called for tenders from sugar mills for the procurement of sugar. As per the tender, the quantity of sugar required for the state is 1704 metric tons
