Agartala: Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath accused the Tripura government of depriving meritorious students of admission in Tripura Medical College (TMC).
Addressing media here today Nath stated despite securing high scores in common entrance test (CET), TMC administration had deprived at least three students in un-reserved (UR) category and two in SC category.
He said students were allowed to compete in the open category but at the time of admission, three from UR and two from SC were left out from the merit list and they had been accommodated in Tripura domicile reserved category.
TMC, out of 100-seats, had offered 55 seats for Tripura domicile and 30 seats were kept open for all India students including Tripura while the remaining 15 seats were offered to central poll. ”We have been fighting for more seats for Tripura students, taking the instance from other states and added the state government assured us that if Tripura students secured position in 30 open seats, they would be given admission without touching 55 reserved seats,” Mr Nath alleged. Since these five students were accommodated in 55 reserved seats, similar number of students with low score had been left out.
According to a decision of the TMC management, it follows the state reservation policy, which is higher than the central reservation policy. But at the time of admission, they followed the central policy that ultimately deprived Tripura students.
”We have been saying since the beginning that all the 30 seats were sold out by the ruling Left Front leaders thereby depriving Tripura students. Now it is proved,” Mr Nath said adding that the opposition party would go for massive agitation. Referring to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), Mr Nath pointed out that Tripura Joint Entrance Board did not announce the cut-off mark before the exam as per MCI guidelines that led to chaos during admission and left 23 seats vacant due non-availability of students.
