NGH trio bag 3 taekwondo medals

SHILLONG: Three youth taekwondo athletes won a medal each at the recently-concluded 5th Meghalaya Open Taekwondo Championship, here, according to a press release from the North Garo Hills District Taekwondo Association on Tuesday.

The championship was organised by the Moonlight Meghalaya Taekwondo Academy (MMTA) under the banner of the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association at the JN Sports Complex indoor sports hall.

The three medal-winners are: Payal R Marak (sub-junior 29kg, silver), Julius R Marak (sub-junior 29kg, silver) and Nathan Vir T Sangma (sub-junior 29kg, bronze).

The trio were led by district coach Balentine Lyngdoh and team manager Nirmalson K Sangma.

MMTA claim most medals

Meanwhile, the MMTA also released a press statement on Tuesday regarding the championship.

The MMTA emerged as the overall champions, claiming 21 gold medals, 12 silver and seven bronze, the release stated.

Dr D Shallam Singh, District Chief Coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, East Khasi Hills, was the chief guest at the closing function and also distributed the prizes among the various winners.
