TMC leader denies reports of making move to join BJP after Lok Sabha elections

SHILLONG, March 17: Former chief minister and TMC parliamentary party leader, Mukul Sangma has dismissed reports of his defection to the BJP post the Lok Sabha polls, stating that the saffron party is a part of the anti-people government.
“Why will I move to the BJP which is a part of the anti- people government? Rather the BJP should come to us if they love the state and the people,” Mukul told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
He said this while replying to reports of him joining the saffron party after the Lok Sabha polls in order to take a shot at a plum cabinet berth.
“BJP is a part of the NPP-led MDA Government. The party is only bothered about being in the government and nothing else. If they had been serious about governance then things would not have happened like it has,” he added.
He made it clear that he will never be a part of the MDA Government which is completely insensitive towards the concerns of the citizens and goes against the interests of the state.
“This government is giving political patronage for all kinds of activities which is against the interest of the state and the nation,” Sangma said.
Ever since two-time legislator and senior Trinamool Congress leader Winnerson D Momin joined the BJP on March 8, speculations have been rife that his “mentor” Mukul Sangma would follow suit.
Winnerson himself remained mum when asked whether Mukul would join the BJP. “May be more are going to come with me in few days,” was all he said.
