SHILLONG, March 23: At a time when BJP leaders and workers in Meghalaya have expressed resentment against the decision of the party high command to skip the Lok Sabha polls in the state and extend support to NDA and MDA ally NPP, senior BJP leader and South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai on Saturday supported the move, saying BJP’s support will ensure NPP’s win in both the Lok Sabha seat in the state which, in turn, will guarantee two ministerial berths for the two women candidates under the women’s quota in Parliament.
“With BJP extending its support, NPP is certain to win in both the seats. If both the candidates (Ampareen Lyngdoh and Agatha Sangma) win then it means both will become Union ministers,” Shullai said.
Sending candidates of other parties to the Lok Sabha will prove to be a wasted opportunity, he said, while adding that if Meghalaya has two women ministers at the Centre, they will be able to bring in lots of schemes and create more job opportunities for the unemployed youth of the state.
Asked if the BJP leadership has committed to giving two cabinet berths to Meghalaya, Shullai said they should get as Prime Minister Narendra Modi supports women empowerment.
He cited the case of Assam where job opportunities are offered every three months and said such opportunities should be created in Meghalaya.
He was quite confident that BJP will come to power in the country yet again.
Shullai also said that the state leaders and workers will have to abide by the directives of the central leadership and extend all support to the NPP.
