Guwahati: The Assam Government has undertaken an ambitious study to focus on infrastructure development of the four sectors of roads, urban, power and industrial infrastructure, said Planning and Development Minister Tanka Bahadur Rai on Thursday.

“The Assam Government has undertaken an ambitious study – 20 years Perspective Infrastructure Development Plan of the state. The study is aimed to focus on infrastructure development of four sectors – roads, urban, power and industrial infrastructure”, Rai said.

Inaugurating a PPP Capacity Building Workshop “Mainstreaming Public Private Partnership (PPPs) in India” here, he said it would deliberate on PPP in urban and rural areas and also on tourism, education and health sectors.

Stating three key factors were required for PPP – a robust framework, availability of finances and bankable projects- Rai hoped the workshop will sensitise the departments to enhance their internal resources and work to create innovative projects through the PPP mode.

The two-day workshop was organised by the state government in collaboration with the union Department of Economic Affairs along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Delivering his address, Planning and Development Parliamentary Secretary Bidya Sing Engleng said the setting up of 50 Skill Development Centres (SDC) in tea and ex-tea garden areas produced 850 students who were placed in various organisations/companies, while a sizeable number took the path of self-employment.
