SHILLONG, March 26: The state government is in touch with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to consider if the expansion of Shillong airport is feasible.
Informing this, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh admitted to various challenges that were hindering the state’s tourism industry.
Assuring government intervention to address such challenges, he said the state is ready to expand the Shillong airport if the AAI finds it feasible.
“And if not, there is also the choice of us looking for more spaces for airports within the state,” Lyngdoh said.
Referring to a recent notice from the High Court of Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said, “I think you must have noticed just last week the High Court had made a strong plea for airlinks between Shillong and Bhopal to enable the judges of Meghalaya HC to travel to and from Shillong and Bhopal, and therefore ease and cut down on the time and expenditure while traveling.”
“So, we are very optimistic and we should be in a position to review matters once election results are declared and MCC is lifted,” he added.
