Opposition members walk out

JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (JHADC) approved Delimitation Bill, 2013 amidst protest by Opposition members on the second day of the winter session on Friday.

Opposition members Moonlight Pariat, ES Lyngdoh, Welcome Dkhar and Hillarius Dkhar staged a walk-out just before the House approved the Bill.

“We don’t want to be blamed for this, so it is better for us to walk out”, ES Lyngdoh said.

The Opposition earlier moved some amendments of the Bill.

The Delimitation Bill, which was tabled on Tuesday, could not be passed following protest not only from the Opposition members but also from some members from the ruling group.

The Congress members who supported the Opposition members of the first day of the session were silent during the Friday’s sitting.

Speaking to some media persons later, Moonlight Pariat informed that the Delimitation Bill would badly affect the people of Jaintia Hills District.

He cited the example of Thangbuli village which was shifted from Amwi Khliehtyrshi in Amlarem Sub-division to Jowai South Constituency along with Dulong and Panaliar Jowai which was earlier with the Jowai Central.

Pariat said that they have no other option but to knock the doors of the High Court in this regard.
