TURA: The first ever Garo Hills Aquafest was held on Friday at Tura Parade ground with hundreds of entrepreneurs and fish farmers from across Garo Hills taking part in the mega event.

The Aquafest was organized by the Fisheries department to showcase the developments taking place in the fisheries sector, under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission and also to provide opportunity for local farmers to market their produces.

More than two metric tonnes of fresh fish was set up in stalls for sale by the fisheries department and its farmer partners under the Aquaculture Mission of the state’s flagship Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme.

The fish were sold for a reasonable price much below the average market price attracting large number of takers. Popular Ornamental fishes like the Silver Arowana, Copper Oscar, Peacock Oscar, Flower Horn, Parrot fish, Red Tailed Shark, Silver shark and other assorted species were also put up for sale during the aquafest.
