SHILLONG: A day after the proscribed HNLC issued a death threat against Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, the state police have beefed up her security.

Informing this here on Friday, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang told reporters that police would ensure the safety of the minister.

On Thursday, the outfit, while warning the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials against the eviction drives, issued a fresh life threat on Lyngdoh.

Meanwhile, while reacting to the development, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said, “We are always ready to take on any eventuality in the city.”

According to him, this was not the first time that the outfit issued a threat to someone and police takes such threats seriously.

The militant outfit was not happy with the eviction drive conducted by MUDA at Umsawli and it had even condemned the arrest of CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing for obstructing the eviction drive conducted to pave way for the New Shillong Township.
