JH programme promotes sustainable agri practices

SHILLONG, March 28: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College (DDUCC), a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Wahiajer campus, on Wednesday organised a workshop to promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower farmers with the latest advancements in farming techniques.
According to a statement here, the programme was attended by NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla as the chief guest, Padmashri Trinity Saioo as the guest of honour as well as 200 farmers and agricultural enthusiasts.
In his address, Prof. Shukla, while emphasising the importance of agriculture for the development of India, spoke about the importance of embracing organic farming practices to ensure environmental sustainability.
He commended the DDUCC for its proactive efforts in organising skill training programmes and pledged continued support for the college’s initiatives aimed at empowering youths and farmers.
Saioo, on the other hand, underscored the significance of harmonising various agricultural activities to enhance productivity and resilience.
She lauded the collaborative efforts between DDUCC and NEHU in facilitating training programmes beneficial to the community members of Jaintia Hills.
Acting principal of DDUCC, Prof. SM Sungoh, on the other hand, highlighted the importance of integrating modern technology with organic and integrated farming practices.
During the workshop, experts also provided participants with hands-on experience in integrating organic farming with modern agricultural practices.
“Through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, attendees gained insights into the symbiotic relationship between traditional organic methods and cutting-edge technological advancements,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that the workshop concluded with the distribution of seedlings among the participants.
