Shillong, April 1: The CMD of MeECL Sanjay Goyal today said that the retrofitting work of the Umiam dam will be completed by May even though the scheduled completion of the work is in the month of June. He also said that the life span of the bridge would increase by 30 -35 years because of retrofitting work.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Government is spending around Rs 4 crores to conduct the lidar exercise. This exercise would determine whether the Shillong Airport can be expanded or not to facilitate  landing of bigger aircrafts. The report is expected to be submitted in the next four to six months. As of now, the Shillong Airport can accommodate only ATR 72 flights
