TURA, April 2: The Nokrek Area Development Committee (NADC) has appealed to PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak to look into alleged irregularities in connection with the incomplete JJM project at Durabanda village under Chokpot in South Garo Hills.
In its complaint submitted through West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chellani, the organisation flagged various irregularities and anomalies in connection with the JJM project, which was revealed in a reply to its RTI application.
According to the RTI reply, a total of 179 households — 125 at Durabanda A’gitokgre, 20 at Durabanda Songgital and 34 at Durabanda Chambugonggre — were found to be eligible for functional household tap connections.
However, a spot inspection by the organisation on Monday revealed that only 30 households had reportedly benefitted from the project, while the remaining 149 households were yet to get the tap water connection.
While the contract work for the project was allotted to one Rahendro M Sangma of Upper Rongkhon in Tura, the sub-contract was taken up by one Tengton M Sangma of Sasatgre village in South Garo Hills.
Reportedly, the project in question is valued at Rs 57,28,000, and the same already been withdrawn by the contractor.
In order to withdraw the entire project amount, the NOC for the completion of the project was taken from the Nokma of Durabanda Chambugonggre by Tengton M Sangma on December 15, 2021, after promising to complete the project in an agreement signed between the two parties.
Informing that the project, despite the promise, still lies incomplete to date, the organisation urged the PHE Minister to look into the matter as well as initiate necessary action against those responsible for the irregularities.
