SHILLONG: On the backdrop of unabated arson cases in the city, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma while airing his unhappiness over the performance of police has asked the law enforcing agency to be much more ‘pro-active’ in tackling the law and order problem.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the meeting of the empowered committee of the state Finance Minister here on Monday, Dr Sangma said, “The law enforcing agency must be much more pro-active, and there must be a visibility of the impact of law, so that fear for law starts developing in the state”.

“It is also important for responsible leaders of the state to refrain from making any inflammatory speeches and from acting in a manner which may be interpreted as an attempt to incite and instigate communal tension,” he said adding that the police department is examining different aspects of the recent attacks.

The Chief Minister said this following a series of petrol bombs attacks in the last few days.

While asserting that the District Administrations has been asked to assess the situation, the Chief Minister said that he would be holding a review meeting of the present law and order situation on Monday.
