SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) has alleged that several politicians from the ruling MUA coalition are maintaining links with the militant outfits operating in Garo Hills.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, MPF spokesperson and UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh said “There are several instances which prove that there is a clear nexus between politicians belonging to the ruling coalition and Garo Hills-based militant outfits. On several occasions it is seen that militants get prior information about raids to be carried out by police in their hideouts.”

While quoting figures, the Opposition leader said that 19 civilian lives have been lost in the State due to the insurgency-related incidents while 9 security forces have also been killed by the militant outfits in the State in the current year.

According to Lyngdoh, the recent incident in Garo Hills, in which GNLA militants had gunned down five security personnel, has affected the moral of the police force.
