SHILLONG, April 14: Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) common candidate, Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the RDA is committed to protect the interest of the religious minorities.
The RDA will vehemently oppose any attempt to disrupt the freedom to follow and practice any religion, he said. “We will not allow imposition of ‘One nation, one religion’ or any other anti-minority laws and policies by the Centre,” Kharjahrin said at an election rally in Sohiong.
He said that the RDA will put an end to encroachment by Assam along the interstate border.  “I understand that the people of Hima Sohiong and Hima Nongspung would want that their boundaries properly demarcated. We are there with the people to protect the boundaries of the various Himas,” Kharjahrin said.
The RDA candidate said any attempt to disrupt the prevailing land tenure system will not be tolerated, while adding that centrals laws such as the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act has infringed into land rights of the local people.
Meanwhile, Kharjahrin also mentioned that the Centre’s move to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is an attempt to dilute the traditional and customary laws.
He further added that they will ensure that the laws passed by the Centre and state are not applicable in tribal areas governed by the district councils in terms of social practices, customary laws, religious practices, civil and criminal courts, traditional institutions, land, forests, and minerals.
