East Khasi Hills District Election Officer SC Sadhu has declared that all district government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on April 19 to enable the voters to exercise their franchise in connection with the general elections to the Lok Sabha this year. Industrial undertaking or any of the establishments governed by N.I. Act, 1881, shops and those which work on shift basis, daily wages, casual workers including those working outside the constituency shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday, the DEO said in an order.

Dry days
The East Khasi Hills District Election Officer has declared dry days in the district on April 17, 18 and 19 in view of 2024 Lok Sabha election. According to a statement, June 4 has also been declared a dry day in view of counting of votes. “No spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of a like nature shall be sold, given or distributed at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private, and within a polling area,” the statement said.
