TURA, April 16: The Niksamso Garo Community Organization (NGCO) on Tuesday warned that it would not tolerate the continuance of illegal smuggling of sugar through Garo Hills to neighbouring Bangladesh.
The reaction from the Williamanagar based organisation comes following the collapse of a major bridge over the Bakla river at Thibapara village, on the stretch of the national highway from Dalu to Baghmara. The bridge collapsed after two overloaded sugar trucks simultaneously attempted to cross it.
The organisation has also blamed the district administration and the government for turning a blind eye to people’s complaints over the illegal transportation of sugar.
