MLCU, NGO to collaborate on community awareness

SHILLONG, April 20: The Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of People with Disability (APD) to create and provide diploma and degree programmes in Social Work, Counselling and other disciplines with a focus on disability and PWDs.
According to a statement here, the MoU, which was signed in Bangalore, will enable both parties to collaborate on community awareness and interventions in Meghalaya and Northeast India.
The MoU was signed by APD CEO Dr NS Senthil Kumar and Dean, Education Outreach, MLCU, Dr Sairabell Kurbah, in the presence of the attendees from both the MLCU and the APD.
“The Association of People with Disability (APD), founded in 1959, works in 21 disability sectors, covering all categories of disability in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. APD has assisted more than seven lakh individuals and sensitized over a million people to the cause of disability. Their Life Cycle Approach provides support for independence through all stages of the life of persons with disabilities (PWDs),” the statement said.
