HI names 28-member core probable for camp ahead of Oly
New Delhi, April 21: Hockey India on Sunday announced a 28-member core probable group for the men’s national coaching camp to iron out the flaws ahead of the Paris Olympics. The camp commenced on Sunday and will last till May 13 at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru. The team returns to camp after suffering a 0-5 loss in a five-match Test series in Australia. After this camp, the team will travel to Belgium and London for their next two legs of the FIH Pro League, where they will be up against Argentina, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain. The core group of the national coaching camp includes goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera and defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay, Sumit, and Amir Ali. The midfielders called up to the camp include Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, Shamsher Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Rajkumar Pal, Vishnukant Singh. While the list of forwards comprises Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Mohammed Raheel Mouseen, Boby Singh Dhami, and Araijeet Singh Hundal. Tarun, Kadam win gold and silver at Spanish Para Badminton
Vitoria, April 21: India’s Tarun beat compatriot Sukant Kadam to win gold in the SL 4 category at the Spanish Para Badminton tournament here. Tarun beat Kadam 21-13, 16-21, 21-16. In the semifinals, Sukant defeated world champion Suhas Yathiraj. In SL3 category, Kumar Nitesh, Manoj Sarkar and Jagadesh Dilli secured gold, silver and bronze for India. In the SH 6 category, Sivarajan Solaimalai secured bronze and Nithya Sre silver. Deep Ranjan and Manoj secured silver while Umesh Vikram and Surya Kant bagged bronze in the men’s doubles SL 3and SL 4 categories. (PTI)
Ramit Tandon stuns world No 11 Crouin in El Gouna squash
New Delhi, April 21: India’s Ramit Tandon notched up a stunning 3-1 win over French world No 11 Victor Crouin in the second round of the El Gouna International Open, a USD 198,000 prize money PSA Platinum squash event, in El Gouna, Egypt. The world No 40 Tandon, who has a direct entry to the World Championships to be played in Egypt next month, won 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5 in 52 minutes for his second victory in five meetings over the Frenchman. Tandon will meet Peruvian World No 3 Diego Elias in the third round. Elias has won both his previous meetings against the Indian. Tandon had beaten Egyptian world No 62 Aly Hussein 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 in the first round of the 48-player draw. (PTI)
