Delhi-based NGO renovates school in Ri-Bhoi

SHILLONG, April 23: SACH (Society for Action in Community Health), a Delhi-based NGO with its regional office in Nongpoh, Meghalaya, handed a renovated lower primary school in Umsamlem village, Ri-Bhoi, to the school management community on Tuesday.
The school was handed over by SACH’s Block Mission Coordinator, Umsning, Lum Lang Nongsiej, in the presence of Project Manager, SACH, Venugopalan MK, HDFC Nongpoh Branch Manager, Jayant Mundoi, and teachers from the schools.
This initiative is part of an intervention by SACH in the state in 2016, which covers areas of livelihood, education, renewable energy, sanitation, drinking water etc.
Under the HDFC bank’s CSR-backed Holistic Rural Development Project (HRDP) project, there are 20 villages which fall under Umsning block that were selected to avail the benefits under this intervention.
The NGO has renovated five schools and provided support such as proper furniture, library and sports materials.
Renovation of Anganwadi centres, installation of street lights, and construction of community toilets and irrigation canals for paddy fields are some of the key activities under this project.
