NONGSTOIN: The WKSU in a press statement addressed to the Chairman of the State Warehousing Board Shillong questioned the status of the FCI godown at Nongstoin that was due to be completed this year.

The Chairman reiterated that the Godown building was completed and handed over many years back.

Three years ago, an order was given to deliver essential commodities like rice, sugar, flour, oils, etc to this godown from Shillong.

The weigh-bridge that is a part of the godown was to be handed over before October 2013 but the contractors carrying out the work said that 80 percent of the work has been accomplished.

Surprisingly the work after 80 percent was stopped for no plausible reason. Moreover, no action was taken by the State Warehousing Board.

The WKSU in the statement said that the delay and inaction by the State Warehousing Board has caused a lot of problem and hardship to the poor and simple people of the two districts, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.

Price of the controlled commodities are higher than the market price since they have to be lifted from the godown at Shillong.

The union requested the State Warehousing Board to take some positive action to make the FCI godown functional.

The union however threatened that if no action is taken within 15 days to solve and ease the problem of the people, they would resort to agitation.
