Williamnagar gang-rape case
SHILLONG: The Tura Fast Track Court is awaiting the order of the High Court of Meghalaya to depose off the Williamnagar gang-rape case, which has been on trial for almost a year now.
The court had to be adjourned on Thursday last, the day the statement of the IO was supposed to be recorded following an application submitted by the counsel of the accused stating that the matter is currently in the High Court.
“We are currently awaiting the order from the High Court to conduct the hearing on the case and to record the statement of the last witness, after which, the case will be disposed off,” Public Prosecutor, PL Sebastian said here on Sunday.
Earlier, some of the seven accused involved in the rape of a girl on December 13 last year had approached the High Court to challenge the order of the Tura Fast Track Court which had rejected their plea to prove that they were juveniles.
The Tura Fast Track Court has earlier dismissed the plea of four of the seven accused in the case who had submitted fake certificates to prove that they were minors.
It was on December 13 last year that the girl was raped by 16 persons near Sacred Heart School in Williamnagar in East Garo hills district. The girl along with her friends was on their way back home from the Simsang Festival.
Nine juveniles out of the total 16 involved in the gang rape case were forwarded to the Juvenile Justice Board.
