IBSD celebrates Foundation Day

SHILLONG, April 26: The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) celebrated its 23rd Foundation Day with a seminar titled ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Promoting Bioentrepreneurship in NER for Viksit Bharat.’
During the event, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director of IBSD, highlighted the institute’s scientific progress and outreach activities, including new initiatives such as the Phytopharmaceutical Mission and Himalayan Bioresources Mission.
Dr Rajesh S Gokhale, chief guest and Director General of BRIC and Secretary of DBT, praised IBSD’s research and collaborations, emphasising its role in developing bioeconomy from bioresources.
On the other hand, Dr Jitendra Kumar, guest of honour and MD of BIRAC, emphasised the bioeconomic potential of NER’s bioresources and urged IBSD to focus on promoting bio-entrepreneurship through training and outreach activities.
The event also featured insights from other notable figures, including Dr Umesh Varshney and Prof Debasisa Mohanty, highlighting the importance of research and collaboration in advancing bioresources development in the region.  IBSD, under the ambit of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) and the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, is the sole institute in the Northeastern region dedicated to biotechnology research.
Established on April 26, 2001, in Imphal, Manipur, IBSD serves Manipur and extends its reach through three centers in Gangtok (Sikkim), Shillong (Meghalaya), and Aizawl (Mizoram).
