TURA, April 27: The Central Puja Committee (CPC), Garo Hills, has expressed its deep condemnation and outrage over the heinous gang-rape case involving two minor tribal girls during the recent Chenga Benga Mela in South West Garo Hills.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the CPC stated that it was appalled by what took place and stood in solidarity with the victims and their families at this time.
“Such acts of violence are abhorrent and go against the values of compassion and respect that our organization upholds. We acknowledge the efforts of the SWGH police in arresting 7 of those that are said to be connected to the incident. We urge the police administration to continue their efforts to apprehend all perpetrators involved in this despicable act,” stated the release.
The organisation has called for swift and decisive action to ensure that justice is served and that the victims receive the support and care they need.
“Furthermore, the CPC expresses its concern for the safety and security of attendees at the upcoming Charantala Mela at Babedpara, where more than a lakh people are expected to participate. We urge the authorities to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all attendees,” said the release.
