School celebrates Kitchen Garden Day in SWGH

TURA, April 29: Government Lower Primary School, Chengkompara Songma, Ampati, celebrated School Nutrition (Kitchen) Garden Day on Monday as part of the PM-POSHAN initiative, formerly known as the Mid Day Meal Scheme.
The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, as the chief guest, who emphasised the critical role of nutritious food in children’s well-being and development into adulthood. Guest of honour, Apojit Koch, Horticulture Development Officer, also underscored the significance of kitchen gardens in promoting healthy eating habits among school children.
The School Nutrition (Kitchen) Garden Day, observed annually on April 29th, aims to promote the cultivation of locally available vegetables and fruit-bearing plants in schools implementing the PM-POSHAN (Mid Day Meal) schemes.
As part of the event, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the students and actively participated in the plantation activity, fostering a hands-on learning experience.
