SHILLONG, April 29: The National People’s Party (NPP) or Monday admitted that there was a huge swing of voters from the TMC to the Congress at the last minute in Garo Hills. The party, at the same time, maintained that its candidate and incumbent Lok Sabha member, Agatha Sangma will retain the prestigious Tura seat.
“There was a huge swing of voters from TMC to Congress at the last minute. But I am confident that our vote share remained intact as some went out and more came in,” Cabinet Minister and NPP leader from Phulbari, AT Mondal said.
Admitting that he would not be able to comment on the situation in the Shillong seat, Mondal exuded confidence that Agatha will win the Tura seat.
“I don’t have a fair knowledge about Khasi and Jaintia Hills but I have information that we are fairly poised,” he stated.
Asked about the assumed or calculated winning margin the NPP is looking at in the Tura Lok Sabha seat, he said, “It is difficult to say now but it will be normal margin. In election we always believe that margin should be big but if you win by one vote also that counts as a win.”
