SHILLONG, April 30: NEHU professor Lakhon Kma has pitched for establishment of more National Testing Agency (NTA) centres in various parts of the state with all infrastructural facilities to properly implement the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
According to him, the existing NTA centres are not enough to cater to needs of the student community in state. He expressed apprehensions that students from economically weaker backgrounds may be forced to write their exams in NTA centres outside the state.
He recalled that last year, students had to travel to far-off places to appear for their NET examination, while lamenting that the government did not prepare any NTA centres.
Kma said that such lack of preparedness should not deprive students of the opportunity avail higher education, which is critical for the overall growth of the state.
He also urged the government to establish clear-cut admission criteria that would not ignore the marks scored by students in Class XII board examination and not rely solely on CUET scores. He also maintained that the marks scored in the 3-year Undergraduate programme should not be ignored for PG admissions in NEHU.
He has urged the NTA and the state government to collaborate to set up sufficient number of centres as well as equipment and facilities.
