SHILLONG: The members of the 14th Finance Commission will meet leaders of various political parties on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Congress would raise the issue of raising the state’s share of taxes and duties for Meghalaya to bridge the revenue gap.

Congress sources on Tuesday informed that the party is also likely to suggest privatization of the revenue collection of the small States with a valid framework.

Party sources also informed they are also likely touch upon the issue that the devolution of the State’s share in terms of grand-in-aid may kindly be on the current trends i.e 2011 census figure.

According to the party, the adoption of the 1971 population figures would be an injustice to the Northeastern State.

On Wednesday, the panel members would visit to Bio Resource Development Centre, Upper Shillong.

The panel is also meeting Chief Executive Members (CEMs) of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Shillong, Tura and Jowai Municipal Boards which would be followed by a meeting with the leaders of the various political parties.

“Finally, they would meet the members of the Chamber of Commerce, Tribal Chamber of Commerce and Frontier Chamber of Commerce before returning to Delhi,” official sources added.
