SHILLONG, May 11: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Saturday inaugurated a free health camp and awareness talk conducted by the Angelcure Research Hospital and Institute (ARHI) at St Jerome Higher Secondary School, Nongmensong.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Lyngdoh stressed the need to conduct health camps.
She said, “When you talk about health camps, once upon a time it was something that hospitals did as part of their assistance to the public. But in contemporary times, health camps of this nature have become very vital because. It is only through such camps that people, who are suffering from various ailments, understand the availability of facilities in their own neighbourhood.”
The Angelcure Research Hospital and Institute (ARHI) is expected to cater to the healthcare needs of the people in areas close to Jorabat in particular and the Northeast and beyond in general.
Ampareen also exuded confidence that the ARHI would benefit the public at large.
“Jorabat is not very far and a central point for the people of the state. If all the facilities become available and within reach of the people, I think it will benefit us immensely,” she said.
It may be mentioned that cabinet minister AL Hek had carried out the soft launch of the strategically located ARHI.
This 200-bed private facility, to be upgraded to a multi-specialty hospital in the next few months, is situated opposite the North East Cancer Hospital.
More than 30 specialists have been recruited at the hospital to meet the requirements of the patients.
The hospital has close to 300 nurses and medical technicians.
