SHILLONG, May 17: The state government on Friday informed the High Court of Meghalaya that it has taken steps for contemplating the exemption of provisions of Rule 8 of the Preventive of Cruelty of Animals (Regulations of Livestock Market) Rules, 2017.
The rule 8 of the Preventive of Cruelty of Animals (Regulations of Livestock Market) Rules, 2017 deals with additional precaution to be taken regarding animal markets in border area.
The rules state that the district animal market monitoring committee shall take steps to ensure that no animal market is organised in a place which is situated within twenty-five kilometers from any state border or within fifty kilometers from any international border.
Additional Advocate General K Kahn sought time from the court to file the status report on the next date of hearing on June 25.
