SHILLONG, May 21: The BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, on Monday confiscated sugar weighing 10,000 kg, which was being reportedly smuggled to the neighbouring country of Bangladesh.
According to a statement here, following receipt of inputs, the troops of 110 Bn BSF Meghalaya initiated an operation, during which a truck was intercepted near Bholaganj bordering area under East Khasi Hills district.
Subsequently, upon questioning, the driver and co-driver, both Indian nationals, failed to produce valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar.
It was after this the duo was apprehended, while the sugar was seized.
They, along with the consignment, were later handed over to the Bholaganj Customs Office for further legal proceedings.
