Agartala: Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura Deepak Gupta has expressed displeasure over poor implementation of directive principles embodied in Part IV of the Indian Constitution and blamed legislators for it.
While addressing a seminar on Constitutional Dream: Through the Prism of Experience, was organized by Tripura Bar Association on Sunday here, Justice Gupta said Indian Constitution is still considered as one of the best constitutions of the world but a section of people have been using it as a safety valve. Reacting to M N Krishnamani, veteran counsel and President of Supreme Court Bar Association, he criticised the role of a section bars in the country in justice delivery mechanism.
Justice Gupta’s reaction came after the deliberation of Mr Krishnamani where he alleged, “judges of today lack in compassion while handling cases.”
However, Justice Gupta attributed that the lack of compassion among the Bench is only a derivative of lack of compassion from the Bar at the first place. He advised lawyers to maintain the practice of integrity, tolerance and follow the rule of law to serve their accountability properly and uphold the democracy and equality as well.
He however, stated, “The Indian constitution under article 14 guaranteed the equality before the law. It is the responsibility of the judiciary to enforce the rule of law for the benefit of the people of all sections and class. The rule of law simply begins at home when you lead a disciplined life.”
“You have the right to express your own views, but you should make your mind to listen to others,” Justice Gupta reminded to legal fraternity and added judges of the courts also should have to be considerate while dealing with the cases.
“People have the full trust on the Indian judiciary; we have to maintain this conviction with all out efforts,” Justice Gupta reiterated. (UNI)
