SHILLONG: State Project Director, Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), FR Kharkongor has stressed on the need to conduct more research studies in the secondary education sector in order to understand the bottlenecks and solve them.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the six-day training programme on strengthening research capacity organised by the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), here, Kharkongor said research is necessary especially in the context of the implementation of RMSA in the State.
“There is an urgent need to strengthen the secondary school sector which is a huge challenge as in between the Elementary and Higher Education, the secondary sector is the ‘missing middle’. As many as 54 participants drawn from research institutions across the Northeast region attended the training.
The training course was aimed at understanding and practicing educational research related to local needs of Northeast region and its use to help in planning and implementing improved practices and process.
Prof. A Sukumar, Principal, NERIE, described the training programme as a significant first step towards strengthening research capacities and creating a cadre of quality researchers in the Northeast.
The training programme was supported by RMSA-Technical Cooperation Agency (TCA), a consortium of National and International technical experts led by Cambridge Education which aims to improve the status of Secondary Education in India through supporting the systems for accelerated planning and implementation of RMSA.
