SHILLONG: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has clarified that no illegal appointment has been made in the Corporation.

Reacting to a news item, the Corporation on Monday clarified that it has never appointed anyone in its rolls without adhering to procedures laid down by the Government.

Clarifying on the job contract to one SK Verma, ex- Executive Director (Security), NEEPCO said it is not a regular appointment and the contract period is only for six months. The appointment is not due to any perceived security threat to the CMD of NEEPCO but related to the overall security management of the various establishments, projects and power stations of the Corporation spread over the entire North Eastern region.

“SK Verma is an ex-Army officer and is well acquainted with the security scenario of the North East. Constant liaison with the police, Army and other security agencies is required for smooth functioning of all the establishments of the Corporation and this requires an experienced person to head the security department,” NEEPCO said.

“It is also incorrect that such kinds of job contracts require the approval of the Ministry of Power. The CMD has the prerogative to offer such kind of job contracts based on requirements and these do not require the approval of the Ministry,” the clarification said.
