Cyclone: Three injured; infra destroyed in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT, May 30: Cyclone Remal has inflicted significant damage across South West Khasi Hills district over the past 24 hours, resulting in injuries and widespread destruction of property and infrastructure.
Three individuals were injured in Rajaju village near Borsora under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division.
The injuries occurred on May 29, around 1 pm, due to a lightning strike. Two of the injured were treated at the Ranikor Community Health Centre (CHC), while the third opted for traditional treatment methods.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority, the cyclone has damaged 29 houses, impacting 152 people across several villages.
The affected areas include Pyndenlyngdoh under Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, and Old Moilam, Lower Puksora, Panchering-B, Munnai, and Mawhati villages under Ranikor C&RD Block.
The Ranikor CHC suffered damage as trees fell onto the tin-roofed building, breaking window panes and knocking down an electric pole within the compound.
The storm also damaged 17 schools, with 15 located in Ranikor C&RD Block and 2 in Mawkyrwat C&RD Block.
The affected schools in Ranikor C&RD Block include Arland LP School, Nongmalang RCLP School, St. John RCLP School, and several others. In Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, Nonglang RCLP School and Shaidshaid Umoid LP School were damaged.
In response to the destruction, the DDMA has been assessing the damage, providing medical assistance, and distributing essential supplies to those affected.
