Women avail training on geo-spatial technology

SHILLONG, May 30: National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP), NESAC (ISRO), and EarthSight Foundation (ESF) launched its first premier capacity building programme for women in Northeast to impart training on ‘Geo-Spatial Technology’.
The inaugural ceremony took place at NESAC, Outreach Facility, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi, on Thursday.
A total of 72 women representatives from NGOs and various departments of Meghalaya and Assam government including Soil and Water Resources, Forest, Rural Development, Urban Affairs, Planning, Fisheries, Agriculture, Tourism, Disaster Management, Environment etc, attended the inaugural programme of the two-day training.
The training programme will cover use of Satellite Applications, Google Earth, and how to use them for development purpose at grassroots level for the society.
This is a “first-of-its-kind initiative in India” to empower women in Geo-Spatial Technology.
Others who were present include Delina Khongdup, Member, NCW; Dr SP Agarwal, Director, NESAC; Dr PLN Raju, Special Secretary to Assam government; Dr Shirish Ravan, Founder, ESF; Geeta Kulkarni, Project Coordinator, RMP; Ameya Deshpande, Project Officer, RMP; Sarvesh Pandey, Coordinator, NCW; Advait Kulkarni and Aditya Tekale, Founders, ESF.
