Police designate no-entry points on counting day

SHILLONG, May 31: The Office of the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police has announced a slew of changes to the regular traffic arrangement in the state capital owing to the counting of votes and declaration of the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
According to a statement here, the changes will come into effect from 8 am on Tuesday.
The stretches of Golf Links Tri Junction towards Polo, Golf Links Junction towards Polo, Lumjingshai Junction towards CRPF Junction, Lumjingshai Junction towards Forest Colony, Polo Point towards CRPF Junction, Merin’s Restaurant Junction towards Polo have been designated as no-entry zones.
“No Parking shall be imposed around the Polo agglomeration on 4th June, 2024 from 6 am till the counting of votes. Therefore, general public are urged not to park their vehicles around Polo area,” the statement said.
Similarly, plying of heavy motor vehicles, including buses, around the Polo agglomeration have also been prohibited on Tuesday.
“General public are requested to avoid plying of vehicles towards Polo area from 08:00 AM onwards of 4th June, 2024,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that vehicles with pass and of emergency services will be facilitated amid the strictures.
