A sinking ship afloat amid rain
In what is not so shocking anymore, it seems like the very foundations of Shillong are crumbling faster than a house of cards in a windstorm. Walls and poles are taking the plunge, roads have transformed into makeshift swimming pools, and potholes outnumber the stars in the sky. The drainage system resembles a twisted maze from a horror movie, and landslides are the latest tourist attraction.
As if that wasn’t enough, it appears that digging up mountains has become the state’s latest money-making scheme. Who needs natural beauty when you can turn it into rubble for profit, right?
It appears as if the rain, the silver lining, exposes the crony side of the state. While it’s a godsend for farmers, it’s also a harsh spotlight on the state’s penchant for shoddy construction. Seriously, how does a place known for its incessant rainfall not have weather-appropriate infrastructure?
And don’t even get us started on the government’s grand plans for the future. It’s like trying to build a mansion on quicksand, while your current shack is sinking.

An electric pole is seen fallen at Goraline,
as its connected wires dangle precariously.
