Pending cases

f special court by the State Government to try the ILP-related cases has given scope for setting up of similar courts to try important pending cases in the state.

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma in June 28 this year had told the media that Government could set up a special court to speed up the trial of Chancellor of CMJ University, CM Jha, who had already obtained anticipatory bail. It ended as an empty promise as the matter is yet to be followed up.

According to an official with the law department, Government can look into hundreds of pending rape cases and entrust the same to special courts in district headquarters so that the victims can get speedy justice.

A case in point is the delay in giving justice to the Williamnagar rape victim even after a year.

Some of the eligible candidates who were deprived of jobs as teachers in Government schools recently said that Government should set up a special court to try those who were involved in the scam.

Another issue is the pending case of jailed GNLA Chairman Champion Sangma which, however, was not handed over to a special court. The case has not made any progress.

Scope for special courts

  • CMJ University
  • Education scam
  • Rape cases
  • Champion Sangma
