SHILLONG, June 3: The Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) has reportedly sought two months’ time from the state government before moving forward with the plan to relocate 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong.
The move comes just four days prior to a crucial meeting between the HPC and state government on June 7 to finalise the relocation plan.
In a letter submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on May 31, HPC secretary Gurjit Singh urged the government to postpone the June 7 meeting in the wake of the death of HPC president, Billu Singh.
Gurjit said HPC will have to elect a new president and also go for fresh registration of the committee with the office of the Registrar of the Society and sought two months to complete the exercise.
