TURA/JOWAI/KHLIEHRIAT, June 12: The World Day Against Child Labour was on Wednesday observed by holding awareness programmes in the districts of South Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
In South Garo Hills, the District Legal Services Authority organised a programme at Baghmara Main market area to disseminate awareness on rights as well as the plights of children. Labour Inspector Baghmara, Sengrik R Marak, informed that if a child is below 14 years old, then he or she is not allowed to be employed.
Meanwhile, in West Jaintia Hills, the DLSA in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner and Office of the Thadlaskein Block Development Officer marked the day by organising an awareness programme.
During the programme, DLSA secretary, B. Majaw, spoke about the schemes available for underprivileged children, who are deprived of education due to financial constraints.
Accentuating the importance of protecting the rights of children, she urged the parents to ensure that their children attend school and to visit the DLSA at Khlihetyrshi for more information about the schemes available.
Meanwhile, in East Jaintia Hills, a campaign on ‘Preventing and Combating Child Trafficking in 100 Bordering and Adjoining Districts of India’ was organised by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and the District Administration.
